More customers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Claude questions like "Who's the best HVAC company in Denver?" instead of searching Google. The answer usually names just two or three businesses. If yours isn't one of them, that customer may never see you.

No one can guarantee an AI recommendation. But AI assistants follow patterns, and you can make your business much easier to find, trust and quote. Here's how. Or let an AI SEO agency in Denver do it for you.

How ChatGPT decides which businesses to name

When someone asks for a local recommendation, AI assistants with web search look up current information and combine what they find. In practice they lean on:

  • Search results and maps data. Results from search engines such as Bing and Google, and the business listings behind them
  • Reviews. Ratings and what reviews say, across Google, Yelp and industry sites
  • Your own website. Clear pages that state what you do, where, and for whom
  • Mentions elsewhere. Local news, "best of" lists, directories and forums that name you

The more places that say the same clear thing about your business, the more confident the AI can be naming you.

Step 1: Make your Google Business Profile complete

Your profile is one of the most-read sources about any local business. Complete every field, choose the right category and keep adding photos and posts. Our guide to ranking in the Google Map Pack in Denver covers it step by step.

Step 2: Claim Bing Places and Apple Business Connect

Many business owners skip Bing. But some AI tools pull search results from Bing, and Apple's listing feeds Siri and Apple Maps. Both are free. Use exactly the same name, phone and details as on Google.

Step 3: Write pages that answer questions directly

AI assistants quote pages that give a clear answer near the top. For each main service, your page should say in its first two sentences:

  • What you do
  • Where you do it (city and neighborhoods)
  • Who it's for and what it costs, or a price range

Add a short FAQ to each service page with the questions customers actually ask you on the phone.

Step 4: Get more detailed reviews

AI tools read the words in reviews, not just the stars. A review that says "fixed our furnace in Lakewood the same day" tells an AI what you do, where, and how well. Ask happy customers to mention the service and the area.

Step 5: Get named on lists and local sites

When someone asks "best roofer in Denver", AI tools often draw on articles and lists that compare local businesses. Earn your place on them by:

  • Applying for local awards and "best of Denver" lists
  • Getting listed by your trade association and suppliers
  • Offering a useful quote or tip to local reporters

Step 6: Add structured data to your website

Schema markup is code that tells machines your business name, address or service area, phone, hours, services and reviews in a standard format. It removes guesswork for search engines and AI tools.

Step 7: Check what AI says about you today

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your customers ask, such as "best [your service] in [your area]". Note who gets named and which sources are cited. Repeat every month. Our free AI visibility check does this for you.

What doesn't work

  • Stuffing pages with "ChatGPT" or "AI". AI tools look for clear information, not keywords.
  • Fake reviews or lists you write about yourself. They get removed and can hurt trust in your business.
  • Hidden text aimed at AI. Search engines treat it as spam.

FAQ

Is getting recommended by ChatGPT different from SEO?

It overlaps heavily. The same foundations matter: a complete Business Profile, reviews, consistent listings and clear pages. AI search adds a focus on direct answers and mentions across the web. Learn more on our AI SEO services page.

How long does it take to show up in AI answers?

It varies. Some changes, like Bing Places and clearer pages, can show within weeks. Being named for competitive questions usually takes months of steady work.

Can I pay ChatGPT to recommend my business?

No. There's no way to buy a recommendation in ChatGPT's normal answers today.
